Install Adobe Acrobat Reader 9 on Fedora

Abstract[edit]

This article shows how to install Adobe Acrobat Reader version 9 on Redhat bases linux distributions: Fedora, Redhat, CentOS. The author fully acknowledges that this work is mostly based on the previously published work on JR, on [http://www.if-not-true-then-false.com.

Install pre-requisites[edit]

To easily install the product you can use wget command, that is not installed by default as part of the standard Fedora 20 distribution.

Acobat Reader required the following 32 bit packages for proper execution: nspluginwrapper libcanberra-gtk2 gtk2-engines PackageKit-gtk-module. The following yum command can be used to install these software packages:

1. Install wget package

# yum install wget

2. Install 32 bit version of

# yum install nspluginwrapper.i686 libcanberra-gtk2.i686 adwaita-gtk2-theme.i686 PackageKit-gtk3-module.i686
  • Note: This process will install a large number of 32 bit software packages. This will take around 100 MB on an standard Fedora 64 installation.

Install Acrobat Reader 9.5.5[edit]

1. Open a root session.

2. Change to /var/tmp directory.

# cd /var/tmp

3. Download Adobe Acrobat Reader 4

wget http://ardownload.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/unix/9.x/9.5.5/enu/AdbeRdr9.5.5-1_i486linux_enu.rpm

4. Install package. The localinstall is deprecated

# yum localinstall AdbeRdr9.5.5-1_i486linux_enu.rpm
